Queen Elizabeth II has introduced an initiative called the Queen’s Green
Canopy, kicking off the celebrations for her Platinum Jubilee set to happen
in June 2022. The initiative aims to combat the climate change crisis,
inviting the public all across the UK to plant a tree when the planting
season begins in October.
The project is being hosted by Cool Earths, a climate charity that aims to
“create a legacy in honour of the Queen’s leadership of the nation”. The
QGC was commenced by the Prince of Wales in March (who is also labelled the
patron of the project) when he himself planted a tree on the grounds of
Windsor Castle. The Prince went on to say that “everyone across the country
can get involved,” as reported by the BBC.
The announcement further detailed that there will be official plaques
presented to all those who become a part of the scheme. The Woodland Trust
has also planned on donating around three million free tree saplings to
community groups, schools, and charities. The announcement urged the public
